UTILITY PROJECT MANAGER

Position Summary

The Utility Head will be responsible for overseeing the project operation, maintenance, and optimization of all utility systems essential to tyre manufacturing operations. This includes Steam generation and distribution, briquette-fired boilers, Compressed air systems, Water treatment, HVAC, ETP/STP, Vacuum systems and other auxiliary services. The role ensures uninterrupted utility supply to support production, adheres to energy efficiency goals, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards. 

Key Responsibilities

1.       Utility Operations Management:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of all utility systems including electrical, compressed air, steam, cooling towers, HVAC, RO plants, and ETP/STP,
  • Ensure availability and reliability of utility services to meet plant production demands,
  • Maintenance & Reliability,
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules,
  • Minimize downtime through root cause analysis and timely rectification of issues,
  • Ensure optimal functioning of equipment through condition monitoring and reliability engineering practices.

2.       Energy Management:

  • Drive energy-saving initiatives across all utility systems,
  • Monitor KPIs like specific steam consumption, specific power consumption, specific water consumption and cost per unit,
  • Implement projects to reduce energy consumption and improve process efficiency.

3.       Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all utility operations comply with statutory regulations including electrical safety, Boiler norms, Pollution control, fire safety and NFPA,
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness drills.

4.       Team Management:

  • Lead a team of utility engineers, technicians, and operators,
  • Conduct regular training programs to enhance team capability in latest technologies and best practices.

5.       Project Management:

  • Plan and execute utility-related CAPEX projects,
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and contractors for timely project execution.

6.       Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain records of utility consumption, maintenance logs, compliance certificates, and energy audits,
  •  Prepare reports for management review and contribute to sustainability and ESG reports.

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering,
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in utility management, preferably in tyre industry,
  • Strong knowledge of utility systems and energy management,
  • Project execution & installation,
  • Utility systems operation and maintenance,
  • Energy efficiency and cost optimization,
  • Team leadership and cross-functional coordination,
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA/BMS systems,
  • Regulatory and environmental compliance,
  • Problem-solving and decision-making.
