JOB SUMMARY
Quality Control Manager in food science is responsible for ensuring that food products meet established safety, quality, and regulatory standards. They work in food manufacturing, processing, and packaging facilities to monitor and maintain quality control systems and procedures. Their role is critical in preventing foodborne illnesses, ensuring product consistency, and complying with government regulations and industry standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure products meet regulatory standards and company specifications.
- Oversee regular testing of raw materials, ingredients, and finished products for quality, taste, texture, appearance, and safety.
- Monitor production processes to identify any potential deviations from quality standards and take corrective actions quickly.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards.

- Implement and enforce food safety protocols to prevent contamination, spoilage, or health risks.
- Conduct routine audits of facilities to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene practices.
- Lead a team of quality control inspectors, lab technicians, and other QC staff to ensure quality standards are upheld at all stages of production.
- Provide training on quality control processes, safety procedures, and product standards for new and existing employees.
- Analyze testing data and production records to identify trends, defects, or areas for improvement.
- Prepare detailed reports on quality control findings and recommend improvements to management.
- Ensure proper documentation of quality assurance activities to meet regulatory and internal audit requirements.
- Evaluate and audit suppliers and vendors to ensure the quality of raw materials meets the required standards.
- Establish quality benchmarks for suppliers and work closely with them to resolve any issues with raw ingredients or packaging.
- Collaborate with product development teams to ensure new food products meet quality standards before production.
- Suggest improvements to existing products based on customer feedback, market trends, or quality testing results.
- Investigate any quality issues that arise during production, such as contamination or inconsistency, and identify the root cause.
- Implement corrective actions, including process adjustments or changes to materials or suppliers.
- Responsible for continuous research and new product development.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, microbiology, or a related field. A master's degree will be an added advantage.
- Certification in quality control
- Previous experience in food quality control or food production, at least 3 years or more.
- Strong understanding of quality controls and legal standards/requirements within the industry
- Analytical and good communication skills.
- Problem solving skills.
