GENERAL MANAGER - IVORY COAST

THE COMPANY

 Our client is a group operating in multiple business sectors across Africa and the Middle East. They are keen to bringing on board a General Manager to lead their edible oil transformation business in Ivory Coast and take it to the next level. The incumbent will manage the imminent recapitalisation of the business unit and drive its growth and expansion strategy as directed by the Group’s board.  

 PURPOSE of the ROLE

 Responsible for managing the strategic and operational agenda of the Company, and its financial performance, providing direction and leadership toward the achievement of the company philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives.

 To ensure zero tolerance robust governance, control and risk management of all company operations in line with corporate policy and legislative requirements.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITY

·     Development of company corporate strategy and plans and setting ambitious operational and business performance goals that ensure growth and are measurable, time bound and tied to overall Company goals and objectives.

·     Directing the overall business operations of the Company through effective leadership and the development and execution of the strategy and policies of the Company.

·     Acting as key interface between Board and the Company, ensuring the Board is appropriately informed of the overall business operations and major opportunities or risks to the Company.

·     Having accountability for day-to-day operations of the Corporation including the annual planning process, capital management, financial management, acquisitions, and divestitures, business expansion… all accomplished within the strategic framework.

·     Having overall responsibility for P&L and robust financial, tax and risk management of the Corporation– recommending the annual budget for Board approval and prudently managing organisation’s resources within those budget guidelines, according to current laws and regulations.

·     Overseeing the Human Resources of the business unit including recruitment, performance, compensation, succession and skills development strategies according to approved policies and procedures that fully conform to local laws and group regulations and including a people strategy that delivers business growth and value.

·     Representing the Company to major shareholders, financial communities, customers, NGOs, – ensuring its vision, strategy and objectives are consistently presented in a strong, positive manner to key stakeholders.

·    Being responsible for effective relations and communications with Government authorities and ministries ensuring the company is appropriately represented in its business sector.  

·    Being accountable for the governance and self-regulation of the Company implementing operation and control measures which ensure ZERO TOLERANCE STANDARDS regarding the integrity of operations and observance to corporate policy and practice.

·     Being accountable for the ESG agenda, ensuring the Company maintains the highest standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EEXPERIENCE

  • Post Graduate Degree educated (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Extensive operational and leadership experience gained in FMCG or Agro business.
  • Unquestionable integrity and strong determination to drive same across the business
  • 7 years’ experience heading a manufacturing company with overall P&L accountability  
  • Significant experience of operating in an executive or board level position, preferably, but not necessarily, in a listed company.
  • Strong leadership qualities, capable of directing, developing and motivating others. Track record in effective and inspiring leadership.
  • Track record of delivering results and shareholder return, experience of delivering major capital expenditure programmes is an advantage. 
  • Experience of strategic planning and execution, ability to communicate vision and strategy providing a clear sense of organisational direction.
  • International experience and developed cultural sensitivity with ability to develop effective working relationships with local and international teams.
  • Effective communicator with excellent persuasive and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop high quality relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resilience to work under significant pressure in a high stake environment.
  • Capable of conceiving and transforming corporate culture, philosophy and objectives to daily reality.
  • Willingness to relocate to Ivory Coast
  • French language is compulsory
