Responsibilities

  • Broker and Client Relationship Mastery: Build, manage, and nurture relationships with brokers, agents, and clients in alignment with NICO's underwriting and service policies, ensuring seamless collaboration and trust to maximize retention and referrals.
  • New Business Sourcing and Growth Strategies: Develop and execute plans to grow the business, identifying untapped opportunities through market research, trend analysis, and proactive outreach—achieving strategic objectives while monitoring performance against targets.
  • Renewal and Retention Management: Lead renewal discussions on major accounts with brokers and insurance stakeholders, analyzing performance, claims experience, and risk factors to propose competitive terms and ensure timely renewals.
  • Technical Advice and Risk Integration: Provide expert technical guidance to existing and prospective clients, leveraging underwriting expertise for risk surveys, quotations, and customized solutions; decide on risk acceptance and prepare proposals in line with reinsurance strategies.
  • Complaint Resolution and Service Excellence: Monitor and address client complaints from various channels (e.g., call centers, regulators, walk-ins), ensuring resolutions within agreed service level agreements (SLAs) to maintain high customer service indices.
  • Market Intelligence and Planning: Research trends in the Zambian insurance market, analyze three-year performance data, and contribute to updating policies, procedures, and manuals to inform business development initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work in tandem with underwriting, operations, and compliance teams to approve arrangements, track premium production, and foster a customer service culture through training and mentoring.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements, including KYC processes, premium directives, and local reinsurance placements, while managing internal and external SLAs.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Compile reports on business metrics, such as premium bookings and growth pipelines, providing insights to leadership for informed decision-making.



Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, or related field; professional qualification in  Insurance  certification preferred.
  • Prior role as an Underwriting Manager (or equivalent) in a general insurance company, with 5-7 years in the industry. Demonstrated success in broker management, new business sourcing, and growth planning is crucial.
